Massive Russian Attack Hits Ukraine, Three Killed

At least three people have died following a significant Russian attack across Ukraine. The assault caused severe damage to power and water supplies.

City Under Fire

Explosions were reported in several cities, including Kyiv, on Monday morning. More than half of Ukraine’s regions were targeted.

Fatalities Reported

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 69-year-old man was killed, and several houses were damaged. A man in Zaporizhzhia also died when his house was hit. Lutsk saw a fatality when an “infrastructure facility” was struck.

The attack, which began overnight and continued into the morning, disrupted power and water supplies. Emergency blackouts have been enforced. Energy company DTEK is working to restore electricity.

Continued Aggression

Russia has focused on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since February 2022. Recent months have seen intensified attacks, causing frequent blackouts. In June, President Zelensky reported significant damage to Ukraine’s electricity-generating capacity.

Ukraine has bought energy from the EU but still faces planned nationwide blackouts. Russia has made slow progress in the east but remains heavily engaged. Ukraine recently attempted an offensive into Russia and struck an oil refinery in Yaroslavl.

Calls for Support

President Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, has urged Ukraine’s allies to permit long-range attacks on Russia with Western weapons.
